Boiler Type

The Flair 58 Plus is a manual lever espresso machine. There is no pump and no boiler. You supply the pressure yourself by pulling a lever, and the pressure gauge sits in your line of sight so you are reading real numbers rather than guessing.
That control is the point. A pump pushes at a fixed pressure whether the coffee wants it or not. With a lever you feel the puck resisting and adjust through the shot, easing in for pre infusion and tapering off at the end.
It uses a full 58mm commercial group, so standard baskets, tampers and distribution tools fit. The brew head is temperature controlled via the included adaptor, which keeps the group stable instead of dropping heat mid extraction the way unheated lever machines do. High flow and low flow baskets are both included, covering light filter roasts through to dark roast espresso.
At 5.5 kg it takes up a fraction of the counter space a pump machine needs, with nothing to plumb or descale. Grind quality matters more here than on any other machine type, so pair it with a serious espresso grinder.
Suits someone who wants to understand espresso rather than automate it. If you want coffee out the door fast with minimal involvement, a semi automatic machine is the better buy.

FAQs

Do I need a separate kettle?
Yes. You heat water separately and pour it into the brew chamber, so a temperature control kettle is worth having alongside it.
Is it suitable for beginners?
It is learnable but demanding. Expect a few weeks of inconsistent shots while you build a feel for the lever. Anyone happy to practise will get there.
What is the difference between the Flair 58 and the 58 Plus?
The Plus configuration adds accessories and refinements around the same core lever platform, including the shot mirror and both basket options.
Does it come with a grinder?
No. A quality espresso capable grinder is essential here, since there is no pump to compensate for an uneven grind.
How much pressure can it produce?
Enough for full espresso extraction. The gauge lets you target and hold your preferred range rather than being locked to a fixed output.
How many shots can I pull back to back?
As many as you can heat water for. With no boiler to recover, throughput depends on your kettle rather than the machine.
Is it hard to clean?
No. Rinse the basket, portafilter and brew cylinder after use. There is no boiler to descale and no group to backflush.
