Zerohero

Zerohero makes pour over gear with an eye on how it looks as much as how it works. The range at Something's Brewing covers a dripper and a dripper stand, both built for people who brew filter coffee at a counter they actually see every day.

Zero Hero Prisma PCTG Dripper

A cone dripper moulded in PCTG, a copolyester that is clear, impact resistant and safe at brewing temperatures. Plastic drippers are often treated as the budget option, but they hold heat better than glass and survive being knocked off a counter, which is why plenty of competition baristas use them by choice rather than compromise.

The Prisma is faceted rather than smooth, so you can watch the bed and the drawdown through the walls while you pour.

Zero Hero Walnut Base Dripper Stand

A walnut base stand that holds the dripper above your cup or server, so you can see the brew and move the vessel without lifting a hot cone. It takes standard cone drippers, so it works with what you already own.

Brewing with a Zerohero dripper

Medium grind, roughly the texture of coarse sand, at a 1:16 ratio. That means 15g of coffee to 250ml of water at around 93 degrees Celsius, finishing in two and a half to three and a half minutes.

Rinse the paper filter first to remove any papery taste and preheat the cone. Bloom with twice the coffee weight in water for 30 seconds, then pour in slow circles from the centre outward in two or three stages.

A gooseneck kettle gives you the pour control this method depends on, and a burr grinder gives you the grind consistency. If the brew finishes in under two minutes, grind finer. If it stalls past four, grind coarser.

What else you need

Filters sized to your cone, since a filter folded to fit will collapse mid brew. The coffee filters range covers the common sizes.

Fresh beans matter more than the dripper. A pour over shows off good coffee and exposes stale coffee just as clearly, so buy from the coffee beans range with a roast date on the bag and finish it within a month.

FAQ's

What is PCTG and is it safe for hot water?
PCTG is a copolyester used for food contact products. It is BPA free, clear, and stable well above brewing temperature, so it handles water at 93 degrees without leaching or warping.
Why choose a plastic dripper over ceramic?
Plastic holds heat better than ceramic, which absorbs it from the brew unless you preheat thoroughly. It also costs less and survives being dropped, which ceramic does not.
Will the dripper stand fit other brands of dripper?
It takes standard cone drippers, so most V60 style cones sit on it. Check the diameter against your own cone if you are unsure.
Do I need a stand, or can I brew straight onto a mug?
A mug works perfectly well. A stand helps when you are brewing into a server, want to watch the drawdown, or need to swap the vessel mid brew without handling a hot cone.
How do I clean them?
Rinse the dripper after each use and wash with warm soapy water weekly, since coffee oils build up and go rancid. Wipe the walnut base rather than soaking it, and keep it away from standing water.
